Our first full month of blogging is over! I can’t believe how this first month has gone by so fast. Avery and I had some goals for this month and we did pretty well overall, but we still have a long way to go! So, let’s just dive right in and review how we did and where we need to improve!

Our thoughts on March

First of all I want to say that in March we did hit over 50! followers on Instagram, but to be honest on March 31st we were down to 47. Since then we have stayed above 50 Instagram followers.

Mar Insta 2017

So that was pretty awesome. Unfortunately I do not feel that we were as successful turning those new followers into content viewers. We are bloggers first and the fact that our post viewers were down is disappointing. I realized this about half way through the month and found that it came from two main reasons:

  1. We were not interacting enough with other bloggers on WordPress. We are great about responding to comments on our own posts, but we need to improve putting ourselves out into the community.
  2. Our social media presence isn’t translating into blog viewership. We need to get Pinterest going as it is easier for people to get to our website than Instagram. Although we really have loved running Instagram and will definitely keep growing it.

Blogging content I was happy with, but my posting skills were weak. I definitely didn’t post every Tuesday and Friday, although we have made progress. Regretfully I struggled with some technical issues and scheduled posts and had to delay some. This is a huge goal for next month. Also we only got our first affiliate link up on March 31st. That was definitely cutting it close and obviously wasn’t going to make us money.

April Goals

  • Post on our blog every Tuesday and Friday!
    • Until we nail this goal it is going to be at the very top!
    • Use a Social Media Scheduler
    • Schedule posts once a week minimum
  • Post every single day for the rest of the month on Instagram

Stat goals:

Unique Vistors: 250

WordPress followers: 25

Instagram followers: 100

Our thoughts on April’s Goals

We kept our stats goals at the very same level. While we plan to not drop our momentum with Instagram, we definitely need to change course and work on getting views on our blog! Our number one objective this month is to showcase our blog.

What is your favorite way to attract new visitors?

Naomi & Avery

Introducing Avery

First off let me thank you for reading and, simultaneously welcome you here to Homestead Sweethearts. Naomi has surely given the two of us more than sufficient introductions, but if you haven’t guessed yet I am Avery, pleasure to meet you. Now, what have you as a potential reader have to look forward to sharing with Naomi and I here? Well friend lean back, for as I write this in the waning light of the dying candle with my feather quill I am planning many adventures for us to under take with one another.

Ok… so maybe this isn’t written with a quill scratching out my thoughts by the flickering light of a tallow candle (come on of course tallow, beeswax is expensive to use for lighting) but that sounds so much more romantic does it not? So through with all of these wonderful posts you will get to enjoy that my lovely Naomi writes, you will also get to partake (or suffer through) in some of my misadventures. The list of things to come are garden prep and planning for the season to come, a project repairing an older firearm from my Grandfather, some woodworking, the actual planting of the garden, hopefully the setup of a new shop, and some forestry (chainsawing). Again welcome and thank you, from Homestead Sweethearts this is Avery hope to see you back here.

Introducing Carolina: mi mejor amiga

Caro during our last spring break came with me to chop my hair off and dye it pretty colors!

Mi mejor amiga is Spanish for my best friend. That is exactly what I think of when I talk about Carolina. Carolina, aka Caro for short, is a huge part of my life and has been for a bit over three years now. I figured with how often I want to talk about her, I should introduce her.

See, Carolina is a super sweet and fiesty Puerto Rican. She can be really sassy (which I love) and can throw jokes back and forth with me all day. But, she is also an amazing human who will stop literally anything she is doing to help you out. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to her and she was always there to listen.

Caro and I met our freshman year in college. We were suitemates and of course the first thing I did was march myself right into her room to say hello. Ever since then we have been pretty much inseparable. Freshman year was spent almost constantly together building our friendship and trust. I remember living literally on the other side of our bathroom, but we would still have sleepovers just so we could fall asleep chatting.

By the end of freshman year we had been through a lot. Regardless of any academic or boy struggles, we both went through, we came out on top that year. The next year we returned as sophomores to live in a house together on campus with five of our other friends. Talk about a lot of girls in one house. We had a rough year to say the least. My ex-roommate and I just couldn’t live together and while we were struggling to figure out that issue the rest of the house relationships were falling apart too.

Caro fought with her freshman roommate and after my roommate moved out she practically moved in. She walked into my room one day and had just had enough. I told her to spend the night in my room. What did it matter anyways I had two beds. We stayed like that for about three weeks straight. Then she went back and forth from “her” room to our room. It was in this time that I realized that Caro was more like my sister than my best friend. For the rest of the year we were absolutely inseperable.

Caro was my date to Spring Formal. Avery was our third wheel.

Caro and I have seen each other at some pretty bad spots in each other lives. We have both had our share of tears and we have supported each other through everything! She is so fantastic she even helps me with my Spanish (¡Sí, comprendo español!) which has to be a struggle. Eventually at the end of our second year, she was accepted to a university in North Carolina. Her family was back there and she was following her pretty awesome dreams to become an architect.

Caro is still my best friend even states away. Our birthdays are a few days apart and she came all the way up north to celebrate our 21st together. This summer Avery and I plan to visit her for a week (Avery and her text constantly ever since she helped picked out my engagement ring). I even asked her to be a part of our wedding.

Carolina is mi mejor amiga. She puts up with my crappy spanish and my even worse puns. She skypes me and tells me about her latest classes and the one I refer to as “the boy”. Regardless of how far the world may force us apart, I’m so grateful she is my best friend. I hope you look forward to hearing about our many adventures in the future!

Caro going home after coming up for our birthdays. Thank you for flying all that way!

Introducing the Sweethearts: Avery & Naomi

Introducing Us

fb_img_1436569341462

Is that a real Tardis? The world may never know.

Oh how does one ever introduce themselves? Hello! My name is Naomi and my wonderful, loving fiancé is Avery (that is a matter of opinion). We just so happen to have started dating in High school and he hasn’t been able to get rid of me yet (please someone help me!). We both come from military families and grew up traveling around the United States. Our dads retired and what would you know, they were high school friends. We both inevitably ended up in our little tiny home-village (is that a real word? Oh well)  and met when we were 8

He claims the first time we met I kicked a soccer ball at his head. It’s true. I just wanted to practice my drop kick! Ah love at first sight (she tried to kill me.. I still hold that the brain damage I received is how I was unable to escape her in time…), well not really. We grew up fighting and bickering every time we saw each other. We both ended up in high school band(The same one can you believe it!). He was a percussionist (Drumline, thank you very much)  and I played the clarinet and did color guard (Yawn). This bratty freshmen named Creepy Kevin tried to hit on me and Avery helped me out of a hard spot. My best friend thought this would be the perfect time to screw with me and gave him my number. We have been talking ever since (Much to my chagrin).

A few months later in January we started dating for the first time. We broke up by march because Avery really didn’t want to go to his senior Prom(Stand by that, and still don’t. [Hey at least he made it to my senior prom]). He is a bit of a dick(yep). To be fair, I’m not much better. We had got back together for a few weeks and I broke up with him on his Graduation(In a text I might add). I’m really sweet. We had a hard time keeping apart (no restraining order can hold her) and ended up trying the friends thing. That lasted until October when he started showing up at my house without fail every Friday night to take me out on a date.dsc_3884

Avery and I Prom 2014

We got back together on November 15th 2013 and have been dating ever since (what was I thinking look at that date…. All my hunters know me now for thy name is fool). In August of 2016 he asked me to marry him. How could a girl resist (say “no”… duh)? That is the really, really, abbreviated story of our relationship. Cute right?

    • Naomi
    • Avery (aw, why don’t I get top billing my comments are what made this post).

Well it is my blog 😉

We really look forward to getting to know you and hoped you enjoyed getting to know a little bit about us. We would love for everyone to introduce themselves to us too!
